Are you intrigued by the possibilities for integrating spirituality into your work in psychotherapy, but don’t know where to start? In this workshop, you’ll develop skills in assessing spiritual beliefs even when you have minimal personal knowledge about specific religious groups, in distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy expressions of spiritual beliefs, and in recognizing the impact of your own beliefs and values on the process of psychotherapy. You’ll learn how to be open and welcoming of your clients’ spiritual beliefs and experiences, which has an expanding and invigorating effect on the possibilities for growth in therapy. You will learn about and have the opportunity to practice specific interventions which utilize spiritual beliefs. You’ll also discover the uniquely effective power of spiritual approaches in addressing several life challenges which are difficult to confront using only traditional psychological methods.
Christine Elliott, Ph.D., brings decades of clinical experience in integrating spirituality into therapy with a variety of client populations to her presentations. She is an experienced presenter and trainer, with a strong ability to connect with an audience, and an empathic understanding of the therapist’s real-life challenges and concerns.  Using engaging humor, and illustrating concepts with numerous clinical examples, she helps participants gain confidence in their ability to work with compassion and confidence with spiritual aspects of therapy.  Through creative experiential exercises throughout the day, she helps her audience broaden their repertoire of methods to break through into new avenues of growth for their clients.

Dr. Elliott is a Licensed Psychologist with more than 25 years of experience as a clinician in private practice and public mental health settings.  She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Case Western Reserve University.  As an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, she teaches graduate Clinical Psychology students how to integrate spirituality into clinical practice.  Dr. Elliott regularly leads training seminars for counselors at The City Mission of Cleveland, MetroHealth Medical Center, and the Stephen Ministries program.  She is a frequent leader for educational support groups which address spiritual and emotional needs, including bereavement, divorce recovery, marital enrichment, and domestic violence.  Dr. Elliott is active on the Board of Trustees of The City Mission, United Protestant Campus Ministries, and other agencies which seek to transform spiritual values into service to the community.

Dr. Elliott’s clinical expertise focuses on bringing the spiritual and religious aspects of clients’ lives into active utilization as a resource in psychotherapy.  Her extensive years of experience in individual, couples and family therapy helps her to blend cutting-edge knowledge of clinical psychology with an embracing of the power that spirituality can add to therapeutic progress.
