Event Description

Children living with domestic violence are often the forgotten victims. They are affected in so many ways, especially as the blanket of safety and security placed on them by those who are to protect them has been yanked away. Placed in harm’s way, these children face numerous risks... .the risk of neglect, the risk of being directly abused and the risk of losing one or both of their parents. Exposure to violence transforms a child’s view of the world, emotional landscape and basic ability to trust. This workshop is designed for mental health professionals who engage with the children who must cope with trauma and violence and their parent(s). Our focus will be to gain an understanding of the impact of domestic violence and to learn the clinical techniques of assessment, goal setting and implementation of mental health interventions.
