Event Description

8:45 am-12:00 pm: Supervision: A Macro-Level Approach (meets supervision requirement). This presentation will explore the significant impact "big picture" issues have on our supervisees' day-to-day work. Supervisors will be encouraged to create a safe space for supervisees to explore ethical and clinical considerations-- underscoring the importance of building critical thinking skills regarding macro level issues as a means of achieving what are commonly regarded as micro-level and meso-level goals, e.g., unconditional positive regard, clinician self-care, best practices, community engagement, and agency mission statements. 1:00 pm-4:15 pm: An Effective Understanding and Application of Professional Boundaries (meets ethics requirement). Professionals make judgments regarding boundaries every work day, and these decisions affect not only their own well-being, but also that of their clients, colleagues, and greater community. Not even the most skilled and seasoned professional can anticipate every situation in which challenges to professional boundaries may arise. However, it is critical that every professional examine, on an ongoing basis, the potential consequences of one's professional boundaries. Presenter Gwendolyn Rees, MSW, LISW-S, has over 16 years of experience working with adolescents, adults and couples in both the not-for-profit and private sectors. She has supervised social workers in case management, behavioral health, and medical settings. Gwendolyn is a therapist in private practice and a Community Lecturer at the Ohio State University College of Social Work. We are located behind Staples. Pull into Staples parking lot and drive around back. There is no sign on the building.
