What does it mean when clients identify as demisexual or gray-romantic? What are the differences between sexual and romantic orientations? How can I better relate to my transgender clients? This interactive and informative presentation explores the differences between romantic and sexual orientations, provides LGBTQQIA sensitive interventions, and integrates relevant case studies to promote a deeper understanding of LGBTQQIA terminology. Resources will be provided that may be helpful in supporting romantic and sexual minority persons.

Stacey Diane A. Litam, ABD, M.A., LPC, NCC, is a doctoral candidate enrolled in Kent State University’s Counselor Education and Supervision program and adjunct faculty at the Northeast Ohio Medical University. Litam is currently investigating the effects of labeling theory and discourse on counselors’ reported levels of empathy and rape myth acceptance. Her additional research areas include LGBTQQIA issues in counseling, cross cultural supervision, integrating creative interventions with diverse populations, and Asian American experiences in academia and supervision. She currently works at a Northeast Ohio agency where her client population includes survivors of human sex trafficking, persons with addictions, LGBTQQIA persons, and underserved minorities.
