Event Description
Welcome to CBT for Depression, the second in a series of CBT workshops that Providers for Healthy Living will be offering over the next year. In this workshop we will be discussing the theoretical basis for Cognitive Behavior Therapy and how to conceptualize depression cases within this framework. We will explore tools for properly assessing depression. We will conduct a lethality assessment, as well as discuss goal development strategies for the depressed client. We will introduce strategies for identifying automatic thoughts related to depression, and will utilize Thought Records. Strategies for behavioral activation will also be addressed. We will learn to identify core beliefs of the depressed client, and learn strategies for changing core beliefs. We will explore issues of compliance and resistance, as well as termination of therapy. Please join us for this hands on, interactive training. This four hour training can be counted as part of the 40 hours of education required for a certification in Cognitive Therapy. Learning Objectives 1. Discuss the theoretical basis for Cognitive Behavior Therapy 2. Learn how to properly assess for depression 3. Conceptualize depression cases based on the Cognitive Model 4. Conduct a lethality assessment 5. Develop treatment goals for depression 6. Utilize behavioral strategies to address depression 7. Guide clients in identifying automatic thoughts related to their depression 8. Utilize Thought Records 9. Identify core beliefs of the depressed client 10. Learn strategies for changing core beliefs 11. Address issues of compliance and resistance 12. Incorporate homework assignments to address depression 13. Discuss termination of therapy Presenters Dr. Matthew Lowe is the Medical Director of Providers for Healthy Living. Dr. Lowe has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of settings and has specialty training in mood disorders, ADHD and other disruptive behavior disorders, PTSD, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, autistic disorders, cognitive behavior therapy, and group therapies. Dr. Lowe is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. Emily Rose Talbott, LISW-S, is the Clinical Team Leader at Providers For Healthy Living’s Mansfield office. Emily is certified in Cognitive Therapy and is a diplomat of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Emily specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders and OCD. Monica Feller, LISW-S, is the Clinical Team Leader at Providers for Healthy Living’s Hilliard office. Monica is trained in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, specifically Trauma-Focused CBT, and specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders, trauma and OCD. Space is limited to 50 participants.
